Ser atleta profissional em Portugal é um sonho real ou um caminho cheio de obstáculos? Nesta conversa, Duba Barradas e Tomás Appleton partilham o que está por trás das conquistas: disciplina, escolhas difíceis e uma paixão que vai além do campo ou do ringue. A partir das suas experiências, exploramos o papel do desporto na vida dos jovens, os desafios de seguir modalidades fora do futebol e as oportunidades (e limitações) de transformar talento em carreira. BIOGRAFIA
Sou o José Duba Barradas, tenho 41 anos, nasci em Lisboa e cresci em Cascais.
Comecei a praticar desportos de combate aos 17 anos e, nessa mesma idade, iniciei também um trabalho social no Bairro da Cruz Vermelha, em Alcabideche, como mediador sociocultural.
Sou mentor e fundador do Cascais Fight Center, um projeto de reinserção social e prevenção de comportamentos de risco através dos desportos de combate, com grande relevância na população envolvente. Ao longo do tempo, construí uma carreira desportiva de prestígio internacional, com 120 lutas e 87 vitórias.
Sou mentor do projeto “Entre Nós”, um projeto piloto que leva mediadores sociais para dentro das escolas, com o intuito de criar pontes entre a escola e os encarregados de educação, bem como entre a escola e as crianças, garantindo um clima mais seguro e educativo.
EN// I am José Duba Barradas, I am 41 years old, I was born in Lisbon and grew up in Cascais. I started practicing combat sports at the age of 17 and, at the same age, I also began doing social work in Bairro da Cruz Vermelha, in Alcabideche, as a sociocultural mediator.
I am the mentor and founder of Cascais Fight Center, a project focused on social reintegration and the prevention of risky behaviors through combat sports, with significant impact on the surrounding community. Over time, I built an internationally respected sporting career, with 120 fights and 87 victories.
I am also the mentor of the project “Entre Nós”, a pilot initiative that brings social mediators into schools with the aim of building bridges between schools and parents, as well as between schools and children, ensuring a safer and more supportive educational environment.
