De acordo com o estudo 50 Anos de Democracia em Portugal, os jovens portugueses votam muito menos do que os mais velhos. Apenas 2% dos jovens na faixa dos 18-24 e 7% (25-34), optam por formas de participação política convencionais. Por outro lado, sabe-se que os jovens estão a movimentar-se no espetro político, com uma maioria a ter uma visão polarizada da política e mais à direita. Por outro lado, um inquérito realizado pelo ‘Fórum Gulbenkian Futuro’ (2020) mostra que a ‘alienação’ ocorre em relação à ‘maquinaria democrática’ e não face aos princípios democráticos, o que contraria a ideia da despolitização ou da apatia da juventude. Será que existe uma fórmula para um match entre a Geração Z e a política? Quem define as regras do jogo – os partidos ou as ideologias? Votar é a única forma de exercer o seu direito cívico? According to the study 50 Anos de Democracia em Portugal, young Portuguese people vote much less than older generations. Only 2% of young people aged 18–24 and 7% (25–34) opt for conventional forms of political participation. On the other hand, it is known that young people are moving within the political spectrum, with a majority holding a polarized and more right-leaning view of politics. On the other hand, a survey conducted by the Fórum Gulbenkian Futuro (2020) shows that ‘alienation’ occurs in relation to the ‘democratic machinery’ and not the democratic principles themselves, which contradicts the idea of depoliticization or apathy among youth.
